OUR STORY

Our History

Mangrove Housing is the founder of The Forgotten Women Project, an initiative committed to providing homes to homeless women over 55 years of age.

Formed in 2018, and born from Mangrove Housing CEO Teresa Reed. Teresa joined the organization 9 years ago, putting her Masters in Psychology and previous experience in the Federal Government Department of Communities, to good use.

Teresa’s community consciousness runs deep and in addition to her role at Mangrove Housing, she is co-founder of The Jack Reed Foundation established in 2016 and providing free haircuts to the homeless. Through her work with the Jack Reed Foundation, Teresa observed a significant number of older women clients with longer hair, which sparked her realization that they were unable to afford regular hair maintenance, so she began her researching.

The statistics Teresa uncovered showed the increasing number of women aged over 55 who were falling into homelessness. The awareness of this demographic became Teresa’s inspiration to create The Forgotten Women.

2018
